Gaited Shooting Horses

We love our gaited breeds. When I go to shoots and see competitive gaited horses I know from experience how hard it is to train a gaited horse to run, much less shoot. This group is for all the people that love our gaited shooting horses.

If you want to see some shootin' off of a gaited horse set to some cool music, watch this video I pieced together of Zombie and me. This is the same arena as the Mid-West Classic is being held in this year, pretty nice.

Your tearing em' up Lexi! Way to GO! When ever I let Dan start to run, I may have trouble shootin' fast enough. He can really stretch it out.

another win for the gaited horse this weekend at the Indiana State shoot. Zombie and I won the 3&4 division eliminator, and our class of L3 for our first qualifying win as a three. This makes for our second Indiana State Championship, so far undefeated at the state shoot. This also makes for our 6th buckle. We've won 5 this year alone. 1 last year at the Indy state as a JL1. I think WSH should do an article on gaited horses. They do the top of every other subject. I think that would make for a really cool article.

Okay, gaited horse folks. Here's my 3yr old Saddlebred stallion, Dan first time off the far, first time he saw a balloon, first time in an arena. His video is posted here too. Just wait til' this rascal is mature enough to let run!

You know, I'm not very good at this horse selling thing. I've got like five saddlebreds for sale and sending folks to Eric. Mine are a bit and the young and hot side though.

Sorry, I didn't see your post. Eric is on here and his page has a picture of the horse and him riding in the surf in his photo's. Harry's pretty good horse for doing about anything. Your gaited horse saddle would fit him too. I run a saddle shop here in Tennessee where that saddle was designed.

Thanks, How do I get in touch with him to find out more? I still have my Circle Y gaited horse saddle. It might fit...?

It's been a long time since I posted on here. But I thought I'd share my news. I used to ride a beautiful, well mannered, gentle and kind, most awsome, Peruvian gelding. We've gone on a lot of trail rides and we learned Cowboy Mounted Shooting together. I couldn't have asked for a better horse. He taught me so much. I searched for a long time to find just the right horse for me, and it was a blessing when he came into my life.
He started a slight limp last month and the vet diagnosed ringbone. After several weeks of heartache over the thought of losing my best buddy, I finally made the choice to find him a new home where he could semi retire. I gave him to a theraputic riding school where he walks little children with disabilities around. No more running, just light duties, with lots of love from the kids. I will always love and miss him very much. And I can check on him anytime.
So now I have to start over and save for another horse. I love my Peruvian. He was easy to ride with my bad neck and back. He actually made me stronger.
I was told that Peruvians aren't designed for running patterns like in mounted shooting and that it may have contributed to his ringbone. I don't know about that, but I'm afraid to get another one. I've been told that I should consider looking for a gaited mustang and maybe even a QH with a smooth gait. (Is there such a thing?)
I know Cody can never be replaced, but I'd like to find a horse that comes close.
He was a real character and smart. I could put a 3 year old or a 72 yearold non rider on him and he treated them like they were made of glass, ever so careful.
He very rarely if ever spooked at anything. And would do anything he was asked, within reason.
So back to square one............
