I just bought a really nice 7year old paint mare for my new shooting horse. She seemed to have a nice head on her when I rode her. The first week I tried her on cattle and did good for the first time seeing cows team penning. Trail riding with her was great she was a trooper. So it was time to practice shooting around her, I took her to a shoot here in Mn at Kuka's. The flags waving in her face and the baloons, gun shots, and all the excitement around her did not phase her at all. She the next day I had a friend shoot out side the arena and we got to the point of finally firing a shot off her back at 90 degrees a little head movement but know jump or out of her mind get the hell out of here thoughts. I was invited to practice shot with some other members of my club. She did really good on the first run just at a walk. On the second run I had a problem with one of my guns and had to stop at the next balloon and fix my gun and she had to stand calm and be not anticapate the next shot. by the last run we did the run down at a lope.

It's nice that what you see in a horses mind when you go to buy them turns out the way you hoped.

DMC Sir Bucky Poco (Cash) took APHA Pac National Champion 2008. I'm so proud of the lil guy. His first 2009 baby is born and it's a grulla/tobiano filly. Can't get better than that. Sadly our mare absorbed, so no baby out of Shawn's shooting horse this year. But I just bred her again, hopefully next year. So when Shawn comes home from Iraq he can look forward to having an awesome baby.

Had a brand new paint filly this morning at about 1a.m. She is out of a sorrel homozygous speed-bred paint mare by my foundation bred red dun QH. The filly is a minimal white red dun tobiano. Double color. Yesssss!

I love my paint horses! My two main competition horses are paints in cognito but they don't know that. My oldest paint is competing again after a five year retirement and doing fabulous! She didn't get the memo that she is 20 years old..lol

I've been raising Paints for about, ohhh, a long time. Started out wanting to raise black and white Toby's so I bought a mare and later a stallion. Then I went to myh first paint horse auction. Bought a buckskin mare that is a shooting horse. In fact, I jujst sold her to a friend of mine yesterday. Also bid on a sorry looking sorrel overo (so far removed from a b/w toby!) because I felt sorry for it and no one else was bidding. Lo and behold I was the only bidder and ended up with her. She ended up being the best bred horse on my place and produced the best foals. One of which I will be starting to shoot off of this year. Though my preferences will still be with b/w tobys but realize that a good horse can't be the wrong color. I also have Foundation Quarter Horses. I have a Homozygous speed bred toby mare in foal to my dun QH stud and am really looking forward to that cross.

I just recently bought a three year old paint gelding from a shooter. Hes a super good horse, reall good head on his shoulders, super fast, but real calm. Little kids can ride him all over, super hardy horse.

This is one of our best ranch horses - Thats my good bud Jason branding calves on him last spring. This horse was named "Peanut Butter" by Jason's 3 year old son "Cade". P B was a breeding accident OOP's His sire was APHA Ch. named Smooth Coaster and his dam was BLM mustang. He's a fantastic horse to ride in the rough country and as tough as an old boot!

Tim your Tejas Horse sounds like a Good'un!
