...teaching your horse to allow you to mount from those "scary things" is extreme... they should give em extra points just for getting em trained for that. Having watched a few of these in person and trailer riding partner of the current Ride Smart…
I taught Doc Holiday not to run off after I fall off. I think that is pretty good training.
when we were in So Dakota this year, Annie and I were standing beside each other on our horses. Well Zane stood up in his saddle so I thought I can do this…
Well, some horsemen today may not do it, but the vast majority of true horsemen and women in the last two centuries taught their horses to allow all kinds of things--from practical tasks such as roping and opening gates, to gentling exercises such a…
I confess my only experience is watching the Extreme Cowboy Race on RFD tv ( which I love) but admit to mixed feelings about this, possibly because of my ignorance. The thing is, it is the EXTREME Cowboy Assoc. I realize all organizations require gr…
Thank you, were are very excited about it! I have not hauled Emmit for a couple of years. Once I realized he was deaf and he was so social I could not keep track of him. We lost our old, 17, female JRT this summer too. We miss them but life is simpler with only 2 dogs.
Thanks Bonnie...I know the Kid Rock song well....its replaced Old Time Rock and Roll as the Michigan State Anthem....and we spend gobs of time in Michigan...so..we have had our fill of the Kid...so to speak...
Thanks... We waited 5 years. Living out of the smaller dressing room was no fun. 4 ft is too small. I figured that I would just keep driving my old car & go for the trailer instead. I keep rationalizing to myself that some people spend that much on a new car.....I dirve a 2000 Honda & my husband drives a 95 Cavilier to work... You 've got to have your priorities straight you know ! LOL
Yes we did, and it was great! I'm officially hooked...RD let me shoot balloons from the ground and I had a blast, I was so surprised at how the gun didn't kick at all. I've started working with my horse with a .22 training gun so maybe I'll get to compete in 2010, I can't wait to try it!
Bonnie... Here's the link. I thought we had the World Champion Senior Ladies 2 in Hallie McFadden but sshe lost it by 1 Miss! I hate wheb that happens!
Good morning Bonnie, What's even better 6 of the 7 I won since May of this year, at the Mid West Classic. My other buckle is the '08 IN state when I was a JL1. The Classic was my 1st shoot as a L1, and I moved to a 2 the weekend after the classic, and it didn't take long to get to a 3. I'm not in any hurry to get to a 4, well I really didn't want to be a 3. I don't think we are good enough for the 3s, me mainly. But, I moved up anyway. We are usually pretty competitive at the local shoots, in small arena, but we got our saddle handed to us at the Easterns, and everything else in the Miller. But, I've been having to change around a lot of gear lately, with my new saddle, old pommel holsters, and borrowed guns, it's been a mess. I think Zombie is getting tired of me making him look bad. He really wasn't right in Arkansas, but that is a whole nother story, and it wasn't all Zombie making Zombie act up. And it's never Zombie that makes me miss. It seems that I can't shoot good anymore, and it's really puts a sick feeling in your stomach, when you can't shoot, at every shoot you go to. It really makes me feel bad, when Zombie sets new fastest time. Until the other 3s run I mean. Oh, well I'll keep tryin, and I'm starting some new shooting horses, to help sponsor some shooting money. I got one about ready now, then i'm going to start on my Saddlebred. I think she is going to make my big arena horse. Zombie trys, but the stride in the big arenas really kills us. I figured it up, and if I shot clean at the Easterns, I would've ran 4th in my class. That really dropped in the bucket. Well, and Zombie was beat before the Easterns even started. It was fun though, I just had to laugh at myself for missing so many, and start nursing Zombie out of the whatever it was that he caught down there.....:)
