I've always had to train my horses to not determine how they thought we should run the patterns. If you take "my horse makes the decisions" very far, they soon decide they'd rather not enter the arena. Yes, horses quickly learn to follow patterns th…

Ohhhh, now I understand your question. All I can remember was that it looked appropriate - Some type of buckskin out fit, but not a dress. However, there were a few questions from other lady competitors. I'm not sure if Native American women ever wo…
I'm just saying, I've seen more than one high level male competitor in a dress at matches. I know they would argue it was for entertainment value or to raise money for a good cause, but it seems to happen fairly often.... As for Benjiumen's question…
Thanks to the Board for listening to the members. Your decision just tells me what I already knew - CMSA is a family. I'll be signing up for the Eliminator at the Gulf Coast Classic. Chuck Duncan
The last time, (many years ago) that I heard about the Doyles was that Pat had some health problems...heart I believe. That was about a year after they took care of stalls at either the Eastern's or Nationals.
Chuck, yes I am going to the Mid-West. I am signed up just haven't paid because I wasn't sure how many stalls I was going to need. Looking forward to meeting you and letting you ride in one of my saddles.
Chuck, To get on my list for a saddle, you just need to get me your address, phone number, e-mail address. Then the size seat, and if you want rough out or smooth seat. As you know I don't offer a lot of options as they are pretty much no frills saddles.
As for seat size, a 16" is too big for you in my opion. It would be fine for other horse activities, but in shooting you need a snugger fit. I'm a good bit larger than you and I ride a 15", Rock Clark rides in a 14", Rick Smith (L-6) is 6-2" about 220 and rides in a 15" and is happy. I really would perfer to have you ride in one of my saddles before you make your mind up finally.
Hi, Chuck
Just checking in to see how your boy made the trip home. Hope he's recovering OK and the trip didn't set him back. Give me an update when you get the chance. Jon
As far as teaching your horse to sit, it can be a bit of a challenge if they dont already know some tricks to begin with. I usually follow a "routine" of training them to bow, then lay down, then sit up, then sit down. Teaching the bow first gets them understanding how to look for the right answer while training tricks and is a fairly easy task to accomplish depending on how sensative the horse is. Too sensative and they get nutty and not enough and they dont try at all, so different methods and patience levels come into play depending on the horse.
I taught Titan all his tricks in about 6 months and continue to work on mastering them everytime we ride. The worst one so far has been the spanish walk for sure. Thats one where patience is a must along with sycronized timing between voice and physical cue's.
Start with the basics and have fun :) Work only 15-20 minutes at a time to start as it can be fustrating for both the horse and you.
Let me know if you get jammed up and Ill try and help.
