Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful to all of you here for such a fun outlet and to all my other shooter friends for sharing such a fun sport.

I know. I've seen him. Scares me to death to watch him ride sometimes. That paint horse of his has come a long way this past year, though.

Many blessings for a quick recovery for Buddy. I don't know him well, but what I do know of him is all good. I wish the best for him.

The last two horses I've ridden to shoot off of were both 14.2 if you stood them up tall. Come to think of it, my horse before those two was only about 14.2 also. So, going to a 15.2 horse is quite a sudden change for me. It's a whole new world wa...

The senior class is not an option for me. I'm stuck with the kids for a few more years whether I want to be or not. I've got my daughter competing my my class, too. She takes it real personal if I shoot better than she does. It's almost worth thro...

LOL, I didn't think of that. But she can join the list because my son will probably be kicking my butt riding my first shooting horse training success. So how much credit does one get for getting their butt kicked by kids on horses they train?

Bless you, Marty. You are a sweetheart, no matter what else they say about you. You never know. I may take you up on that offer in the spring if I don't have her going by then. But I'm very hopeful that I will have this horse going in time to shoo...

You and me both, Bonnie. After I went and got that mare all good and working and winning, I done went and sold her and bought another horse with no history and no shooting experience. The girl that bought my mare really wants to start shooting, an...

DoaMS: Finding a New Shooting Horse

Now that it was settled and my son had been doing so well competing on my little mare, it was time to begin thinking about a new shooting horse for me. Where does one look to buy a shooting horse? And what does one look for? There should be a list out there somewhere of instructions on how to go about shopping for shooting horses. Hmm....

Color? Yeah! Gotta be eye catching out there shooting, right? Speed? That should be considered, too, shouldn't it? Age? I didn't want another young horse. Ath… Continue

An inside look at a Kenda Lenseigne Clinic

The Elk River Outlaws recently took advantage of the Eastern United States CMSA Championship bringing one of the stars of cowboy mounted shooting to this side of the country. On August 31 in Shelbyville, TN they hosted a day-long clinic by Kenda Lenseigne, world champion cowgirl, four-time world point champion, and holder of six world records. The fact that attendees came from every level of mounted shooting and some even traveled as long as two days to attend was a testament to the expectations… Continue

Diary of a Mounted Shooter: A Mother's Tale

So less than a week after my son shoots at practice for the first time off my just sort of finished shooting horse we take him to his first match. What I want to know is, why did I still have to get up at 6am to throw on rumpled clothes and tromp to the showbarn looking like Medusa without makeup to feed horses I wasn't riding? I did my best to convince myself that no one recognizes me at that hour of the morning in that condition and that I will be rewarded in heaven for letting my family get a… Continue

Diary of a Mounted Shooter: Part 7

Did I mention I lost my saddle, too?

Yep. That went with the horse. I had it specially made and fitted for her last fall because I never could get a saddle to fit right on her. So my new bear trap shooting saddle is gone, too. Talk about wondering what happened! A week ago I was on top of the world convinced my horse had turned the corner and was on her way to becoming a top notch shooting horse. Now I'm left searching ebay for a new saddle while I chant growth incantations over my two year old… Continue

Diary of a Mounted Shooter: Part 6

I had to go and say it. I had to question what I was going to write about now that my mare seems to have FINALLY turned the corner and taken to the shooting. I had to tempt the powers that be by commenting in public (in response to Marty) that I didn't know what I would write about now. I should have known better. I never in my wildest dreams thought that what has happened would result.

I have lost my newly "finished" shooting horse.

No, nothing bad has happened. She is perfectly healthy, and… Continue

Girls should be worth more than boys.
Even though both sexes eat you out of house and home, girls (usually) eat less.
Plus girls mature faster, can multi-task, usually have (in general) more skills than boys. And as you have noticed, can bring in more males to help out that you can send back home when you are done with them.
I did all the cooking and cleaning for the family plus pulled my first engine at 14. Though one of my two stepsisters did bring in (way) more than her fair share of young male help. :0/

So.... how much ya want for ones of the kids ? Ours are gone and Nesie just ain't big enough to help much yet :0p
I'm being good. Almost posted it on the disscussion. We haven't been able to shoot for 3 months. Having to budget for the 35.00 Extreme event this weekend.

You can just bring the check to a practice. I should be there next week. I have a meeting this Tuesday. As I said on Sunday, I wasn't upset over it.

I think the new rules on move ups may hurt smaller shoots and they become more local. I don't think it will encourage more travel as some people think. Travel is more influenced by costs. For example, with four horses four riders like in your family it is fairly costly to go to an out of state shoot. What with fuel, stalling and food costs.

Hi Jennifer,
Great shoot! I had a lot of fun even though I couldn't buy a balloon on Sunday. I'm getting close to my goal of beating Mr. Mengle.

I agree with your comment about the number of riders in a class. It will be a long time to get enough move up wins, if all Mr Ivey and I have are each other in the classes.

Hey Jennifer,
My new mare is an Arabians, of course. She is taller and should be able to carry me a bit easier than Sage. Her bloodlines are what attracted me. She is bred from all Polish racing lines. In Poland, they test their breeding horses in racing. She is quite a bit faster than Sage in the pasture. She looks more thoroughbreddy. So, on to my next horse project. I've worked with her a bit on the ground and she seems pretty smart, not as smart as Sage, but very willing. I should be getting on her in a couple of weeks.

So, what was the medication Terry was thinking about?

Getting paid makes it legit ? Damn thats what I'm doing wrong. Yours isn't just about the horse though. Its how you are feeling and dealing with it Thats like saying just because David Drake writes excellent military sci-fi, that David Weber who also writes excellent military sci-fi shouldn't, 'cause then there would be two excellent writers and I'd have to choose. I did... read both..
Gotta go back out to check on drainage trenches. Had rain all week. No arena work this weekend.

I didn't shoot on Tuesday. I won at the South Central Regionals.

Overall my raw times were on target with what I had hoped. I just couldn't shoot and had a senior moment where I switched guns twice. My mare liked the smaller arena and I shot well in there. Probably didn't have enough time to think about missing. LOL

Terry really did well. He is getting competitive with times several levels above him. He really impressed me this past weekend.

Yep it was a word. Looked up the spelling just because. Its finagle just in case ya wanna use it in your story. Or you can leave it Minion-style spelling.
Can't wait to read the story.
