My Walkin' Horse and I just got bitten by the mounted shootin' bug in early February of '08. Thanks to some very special people, my shootin' coaches, we have improved so much since then. Before shootin' I only went trail ridin' with my parents and some other friends around trails in Indiana. I really appreciate all the help I've gotten from the other shooters. They have really helped to train me and my Walkin' Horse to the very addicting sport of Cowboy Mounted Shooting. It was very ironic how I came to know this sport. This had to be pre-planned. I was getting really board with trail riding all the time and wanted to compete in some type of horse sport. My friend really wanted me to join her 4-H club. I went to my first meeting in February. I met the most stuck up and meanest people ever. Even my friend would not talk to me. The 4-H people were not very accepting that my horse, Zombie, was a smooth gaited horse, only 14.3 hands high, not papered, not a Quarter Horse, and that I didn't pay gobs of $$$ for him. There was a couple that spoke in front of kids trying to get balloon setters for a shoot that was happening over in the Cloverdale arena (Where the Classic is held this year). We didn't know there was a sport with shooting and horses combined. We never mixed the two together. My family and I have always been into guns and shooting. We listened, but still didn't think anything of it. We went to dinner afterward and met those same people, and the rest is history. Every shoot we go to it seems we take the shooting a little bit further. Unfortunately, funds and the fact of being a junior last year limited me to no wins at all. In my mind I competed against myself and the other regular level 1s. I really look forward to the '09 shootin' season especially with the new junior class rule. I'll be able to compete as a Ladies 1 this year, and I'm hoping that Zombie and I can make the cut at the shoots around Indiana. We already won the Indiana State Champ in '08. I know I would not be were I am if it wasn't for my parents and the other shooters that have, and still are, helping Zombie and I make in the shooting world.
This video link is to a movie I made of Zombie and I at our last shoot in '08, you can tell we are still a bit rusty.
